1. Beatles Magical Mystery Bus Tour

Rated five stars and recommended by 98% of travellers on Tripadvisor, the Beatles Magical Mystery Bus Tour starts from £19.95 per adult, or £50 for a family ticket. A great alternative to exploring the city on foot, you’ll board a bus for a tour centred around one of the most iconic bands to come out of the city. Created by The Cavern Club, the tour involves a 2-hour guided trip around the city to show you where each Beatle spent their time before fame and fortune. Starting at the Albert Docks the tour takes in Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, John Lennon’s childhood home and ends at the Cavern Club.

2. Liverpool One

The largest open-air shopping centre in the UK, Liverpool One is a shopping and leisure complex where you’ll find everything from high street to high-end shops under one (open-air) roof. There are more than 170 bars, shops and restaurants and if you’re going by car you can even reserve a parking space in advance – a godsend if you have kids! There’s something for all the family, including a 14-screen cinema. The centre also operates a free child-safe wristband system, so if your little one wanders off you can be safe in the knowledge you’ll be reunited quickly and easily.

3. Christmas markets

If you’re planning a seasonal trip to Liverpool, you’ll find the city centre come alive with more than 40 Christmas market stalls, rides, and light displays creating a magical atmosphere – and the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit. Think German sausages, mulled wine and hot chocolate while browsing stalls selling gifts, personalised decorations, jewellery and much more. The market runs from mid-November to Christmas each year and don’t forget to look out for its famous Yorkshire pudding wrap!

4. Formby beach

If you fancy a beach day Formby beach is a coastal nature haven for both wildlife and people. Owned and managed by the National Trust, it’s home to some of Europe’s most important and protected sand dune habitats and boasts fun for all the family. Highlights include two shipwrecks which are embedded in the sand and can be seen at low tide, and prehistoric footprints preserved in the sediment beds. Parking is free for National Trust members, or costs £8.50 for a standard car.

5. Liverpool FC tour

If you’ve got a football fan in the house then a trip to Anfield is a must. Home to Liverpool Football Club since its formation in 1892, it’s the fifth largest football stadium in England. Prices start from £19 per adult and £13 per child under 16, and if you book in advance there are plenty of discount codes to be found online. Tours provide all the history and facts a football fan could ask for, and if you’re feeling really brave you could even book an Anfield abseil!
