Planning on giving your home a makeover this year? Got lots of ideas but not sure where to start?
Me too!
It’s been six months since we became home owners for the first time and after breathing a new lease of life into the most desperate room in our property – the bathroom – it’s time to turn our attention to the rest of the flat.
The question is, where do you start and how can you make the most impact without breaking the bank in the process? Whether it’s retro-inspired room ideas or a spring pastel theme you’re going for, there are ways to achieve your vision without creating a major hole in your pocket. In this post here are 5 simple ways to give your home a makeover for maximum results with minimum effort!
5 simple ways to give your home a makeover
1. Paint the walls
When you think of changing your home’s decor and appearance, painting the walls is often the first thing that comes to mind. New wallpaper or colours can drastically change the way a room looks, making this the perfect option for an easy and often inexpensive home update. Some of the biggest colour trends for interiors in 2019 include coral, forest green, pale pink and soft terracotta — all of which are ideal to give your home a quick refresh.
2. Paint the exterior
Giving the exterior of a property an update is a simple and effective way to give your home a makeover, whether with a new colour on the brickwork, a pebbledash effect, or another exterior style. If you do decide to update the outside appearance of your home, choose a colour or style that you know will suit your taste for a long time and that will last well against harsh weather conditions. If you haven’t had a good clear out for a while and have lots to declutter inside you could consider booking skip bins online so you can sort out what you want to keep from what you want to throw away. Skips come in a choice of different sizes so you can find the one that’s right for you.
3. Replace the windows
Not only do new windows update the appearance of your home from the inside as well as the outside, they’re also eco-friendly and practical. Old and outdated windows can cause draughts to seep through, requiring more heating in the winter months, whereas new high-quality windows keep the heat in and reduce your energy bills in the process. If you live in an area prone to storms and hurricanes consider installing hurricane-rated and impact-resistant windows from a company like Storm Pro Window and Door to further safeguard your home.
4. Change the lighting
Lighting might not be something you’ve considered changing or replacing but updating your home with stylish lighting designs like pendants or built-in wall lights can give a more modern look as well as being eco-friendly. Even property investment companies are starting to utilise this, developing new build properties that feature eco-friendly lighting. RW Invest, a UK based company, offer investment properties with smart lighting to attract more tech-savvy and eco-conscious tenants.
5. Change the flooring
Whether it’s fitting new carpets, new laminate flooring, or sanding down and glossing an existing wooden floor in your home, updating your flooring is another simple update idea. Painted floors are a big interior trend this year and a great thing to try if you want to easily update your flooring without the cost of new fittings. Whatever you’re choosing to do next with the floor, keep in mind that there may be old panels or floorboards that you’ll need to dispose of before getting started with the new plans. Additionally, you may wish to dispose of old furniture and other fittings at the same time as your floor renovation. If this is the case, then it may be a good idea to rent a roll off container in your state, as it will give you an easy way to dispose of all of the clunkier items. When it comes to planning what the new floor should look like, consider shades like white to open up and brighten a space, or if you’re feeling adventurous, opt for a bold colour to breathe new life into your home.

These are wonderful tips! I think that painting the walls and changing the flooring can have the biggest impacts. Lighting has a way of transforming the way the room is viewed quite nicely. #kcacols
