As a mum of four I know how important it is that each child has their own space and the tools they need to express themselves.

Creating independent spaces for growing children

The modern world has realised the importance of giving children their own space for different activities, including:

  • A place to play with a sufficient area
  • A zone to sleep, having suitable furniture such as a kids upholstered bed
  • A study area with a comfortable chair, a table, and shelves to organise books

The value of personal space for kids’ development

Kids can get great advantages from having their own independent space because this environment can give them the opportunity to make their own choices and take responsibility. They can express their inner self in their own place.

1.     Enhancing confidence

Try giving them their personal space at an early age and let them use it in their own way. This can improve the personality traits, including:

  • Enhance the confidence
  • Boost the physical health
  • Make mentally strong
  • Create a sense of responsibility
  • Make a positive mindset
  • Encourage decision-making
  • Create leadership abilities
  • Show the art skills by decorating their area
  • Polish their talent

2.     Improve emotional control

A calm personal environment helps children to relax, recharge, and process their emotions effectively. Having a separate and safe environment can reduce stress, and they can make their daily life routine on their own.

3.     Promote practical skills

Parents should give their children full control to see the reflection of their real personality and their talent. They can design their place, manage their belongings and do small tasks at an early age. They can become competent and a self-made person as they mature.

Design personal space at home

You can create a personal space with small adjustments, and it doesn’t need costly and constant changes.

1.     Relaxation zone:

A personal bedroom gives a child a feeling of comfort and ownership. They can set up their room according to their taste and needs, such as:

  • Favourite colour theme
  • Shelves arrangements
  • Cosy spot for study
  • Stuff toys and other soft things like pillows and blankets
  • Storage space to keep the room tidy

Selecting furniture that is useful according to the changing needs is the key when planning a kids’ room. Modern families like functional furniture, such as a kids’ upholstered bed. The right choice can create a stylish and cosy sleeping space.

2.     Making a functional study space

Kids need their own study area designed only to focus on studying without distractions. A good area of study includes:

  • A comfortable chair
  • Proper lighting
  • Maximum storage options
  • Easy access to the books and stationery

Kids can be more consistent in studying when they have their own zone.

3.     Well-defined play area

A personal place plays an important role in mental growth and emotional security. Kids must have their own area to freely play, which can enhance their creativity level and make them mentally strong.

Parents should create spaces that include:

  • Art area
  • Building blocks
  • Drawing books
  • Musical instruments
  • Puzzle games

These activities can all create curiosity and creative thinking and cut down on screen time.

Prioritising safety & comfort

While making zones for each activity, parents should create a safe environment, especially for small kids. The room should be comfy and good for health.

A safe place includes:

  • Safe furniture
  • Furniture with covered sharp edges
  • A good natural air flow
  • Materials that aren’t harmful
  • Storage space that is easy to organise and use

Helping mental & physical health

There should be a proper system for a good flow of air and sunlight in the room, which can improve children’s health.

If we manage to establish a healthy environment in the room, it can lead to:

  • A good quality sleep
  • Reduce anxiety and stress
  • Stronger control over feelings

Balancing digital & analogue activities

The world has become digitalised over time, and it continues to do so. It is now an essential part of our lives, and we can learn more by using this digital technology, but the importance of books is still the same. Online games and learning enhance creativity, but physical activities are also important. It is now important to keep the offline and online activities balanced.

Technology helps to design and maintain a functional room to perform all activities. Digital learning and offline fun are both essential, and there must be zones for both because they can help children become physically and mentally strong and socially skilled.

All these factors show that parents should give independence to their kids in doing different activities in their own space because it can help them to grow.
