On the hunt for Easter egg alternatives you can still get your hands on without leaving the house owing to the coronavirus lockdown?
Then you’ve come to the right place!
Easter 2020 will probably go down in history as the year the UK was in the grips of the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still safely celebrate in the comfort of your own home.
I’ve seen various social media posts debating whether we should be buying chocolate eggs and news reports questioning whether Easter chocolate is an ‘essential item’ at a time like this but as a mum of three my answer is: absolutely yes!
Easter plans have been hijacked enough as it is thanks to coronavirus without the Easter bunny going AWOL as well – and if anything the fact we’re on lockdown makes me more determined to create a memorable Easter for the kids. We’re also Catholic, and aside from Christmas Easter is the biggest event on the school and church calendar – coronavirus or no coronavirus.
So, if you’re planning on celebrating Easter as usual too and are looking for some chocolate egg alternatives you can buy online without leaving the house we’ve been gifted some fun suggestions from small businesses who are all open for business despite the lockdown, with contact-free home delivery too.
Fun chocolate egg alternatives for Easter on lockdown
Easter chocolate pizza | The Gourmet Chocolate Pizza Company
From £11.75
Yes you did read that correctly – chocolate pizza! Topped with an Easter bunny, chocolate mini eggs and a giant daisy The Gourmet Chocolate Pizza Company’s Easter pizza comes in 7 or 10 inch sizes and is pre-cut into eight slices – making it perfect for sharing with family or sending as a gift during lockdown.
The pizza is handmade from Belgian chocolate with chocolate curls on top and while I admit it looks too good to eat, I think we’ll manage!
Chocolate popcorn mini eggs | Joe & Seph’s
£3.50 – £5
They’re mini eggs – but not as you know them. Handmade gourmet popcorn experts Joe & Seph’s Easter offering includes ‘mini eggs’ featuring two pieces of their signature salted caramel popcorn set inside mini milk chocolate eggs.
There’s a gift box (£5) or pouches (£3.50) alongside an Easter gourmet selection box and individual pouches, plus there’s free delivery on orders of £12 or more too.
Mermaid pink gin | Isle of Wight Distillery
£35.89
What with the stresses and strains of lockdown I thought I better include one for the grown ups and I can’t wait to crack this open once the new baby arrives! The Isle of Wight Distillery’s Mermaid pink gin is infused with strawberries grown on the island and botanicals including savoury rock samphire and herbaceous Boadicea hops to create a ‘light and bright’ gin.
You’re also doing your bit for the environment: the gin comes in plastic-free packaging with a compostable tamper-proof seal, biodegradable labels and a natural cork stopper (to preserve the habitat of mermaids, of course!)
Are you still planning to celebrate Easter as best you can despite the coronavirus lockdown? Do any of these chocolate egg alternatives tickle your fancy? I’d love to know which ones!
