An estimated five million holiday makers descend on Cornwall each year, which makes planning your trip all the more important.
So, what do you need to know before you go? Here are my top 5 tips for planning a holiday to Cornwall with kids!
5 top tips for planning a holiday to Cornwall with kids
1. Do your research
When it comes to accommodation, do your research and book before you go to make sure you get the most from your trip. Think about what it is you want from your holiday, the different ages you need to cater for (yourself included!) and location. Some of our best holidays have been on holiday parks in Cornwall because the locations are always great and there’s something for everyone with a host of activities to choose from. For example, heated indoor and outdoor pools, kids’ playgrounds, live evening entertainment and kids’ clubs.
2. Book attractions in advance
Just like your accommodation, consider booking attractions well in advance too so you’re not disappointed if things sell out, and so you don’t waste time queuing on the day because the top attractions can get busy, especially in the summer. Booking attractions in advance also means you can take advantage of online special offers, leaving you more spending money for things like ice cream.
3. Plan your beach trips
Cornwall is famed for its beautiful beaches, but they can be a bit of a trek from the car park – especially if you’ve got little people in tow. Plan your beach trips so you have everything needed for the day and you don’t have to keep going back and forth to the car to fetch things.
4. Try out the local food
As well as Cornish pasties, a trip to Cornwall isn’t complete without trying out some of the local food: think fresh seafood, cream teas, saffron buns, Cornish fudge and of course ice cream. Stargazy Pie – a baked fish pie – is also guaranteed to pique your kids interest – especially if the heads and tails are coming out of the pastry!
5. Pack for all weathers
The saying goes ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing’ and nowhere is the saying more true than in Cornwall! The sun can be shining one day and then it’s raining and windy the next, and what’s more the weather can change quickly with four seasons in one day. Make sure you’re prepared for every eventuality so you can go out and enjoy your day no matter what the great British weather throws at you.
