Got something you’re saving up for?
Something you want to buy or see or do, but not sure how to achieve it due to the small matter of finances?
We’re currently in the process of saving up to renovate our flat, something that’s easier said than done what with mortgage payments, two sets of nursery fees, after school clubs and financial commitments in general.
Yet the saying goes that a goal without a plan is just a wish, and although we have a goal, we don’t have a firm plan in place in order to achieve it. So, how can we help our dream become a reality, rather than just a wish? This collaborative post explains how!
How to achieve your financial goals in 5 easy steps
1. Create a master plan
People are unique and different factors can act as motivators or deterrents. Think about your strengths, weaknesses and personality traits and create a plan that fits your current circumstances and is right for you. For example, swapping a monthly trip to the nail salon for a do-it-yourself treatment at home will soon start adding up!
2. Keep a diary
Set out your ambitions and dreams in a diary. Recording your thoughts and ideas will inspire change and help carry you to where you want to be. Use the information for further reflection on what is valuable to you.
3. Reflect
At the end of each day think about your master plan and spend time reflecting on its significance to you. Go back over the day and think about what you did, what you learned, what happened, how it made you feel and how you could change your behavior to help achieve your goal in the future.
4. Set goals
Sites such as Wealthify help you to establish and achieve financial goals, from Junior ISAs so you can invest in your little one’s future to investment knowledge too. Remember that your master plan is your roadmap to achieving your goals, and the more knowledge you have, the better.
5. Act on your plans
People who take action will always be more successful than those who keep action in the virtual realm. Keep your master plan in mind, think positively, do the best you can and you’ll be on the road to achieving your goal!
Are you working towards a financial goal at the moment? Do you have any top tips? I’d love to know what they are!

I tend to be very frugal. My aim this year would be to build up our savings but I am also dreaming of a new sewing machine too. Not sure which will come first yet! #MMBC
I’m saving up for a wheelchair and you’ve given me some great ideas, I really need to get my plan written down and evaluate it regularly, at the moment I just look at m#mmbcy savings account and wonder why I haven’t saved enough.
We have a few things that need replacing around the house so we are putting a little away each week to cover it all.
I agree with jotting everything down in a notebook, I do this regularly but I do end up writing all of my own wish-list in it hehe! x #MMBC
Setting goals and then reflecting at the end of the month really helps to keep me on track. I try to do something each day towards my financial goals, even the smallest things soon add up x
we have a few things that we would like to achieve financially this year. We are keeping track, but I have never thought about reflecting on it before, may have to try this.
