Poo, farts and bottoms. If I had to list three things guaranteed to send the kids into fits of giggles in our house poo, farts and bottoms would top it. In that particular order.
So when we were asked to review a new children’s story book called I Found a Poo – about (you guessed it!) poo – of course I had to say yes!
The truth is it doesn’t get much better than books about poo and with pictures of poo in when you’re little. The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business is a firm favourite in our house, and I was interested to see how I Found a Poo compares.
Making story time fun with I Found a Poo by Carolina Castillo
Written by primary school teacher Carolina Castillo and illustrated by Mark Wilkinson, I Found a Poo tells the story of Mr Marmalade, a very cross cat who discovers a rogue poo while on his way to school.
He decides to go on ‘poo patrol’ in a bid to find the culprit, and sets about getting to the bottom (excuse the pun!) of who is responsible.
There are 28 pages in the book, which are all colourfully illustrated and feature various shapes, sizes and consistencies of poo, which of course the kids found hysterical!
Highlights in our house include a rather graphic illustration of a bare foot squelching in a poo, which had Max (6) in fits of laughter.
If you’re on the hunt for a book that’s a little bit different and that will put a smile on everyone’s face (and don’t mind lots of discussions about poo) this book’s for you.
It’s easy to read, isn’t so long you’ll want to skip a few pages while reading it to them and will appeal to all primary school ages. There aren’t many books that will capture the attention of all of my older three (nine, six and four) at the same time, but I Found a Poo is one of the few that does.
Do you have a favourite ‘naughty’ story time book in your house? I’d love to know what it is!
I Found a Poo by Carolina Castillo is published by Austin Macauley Publishers and is out now in paperback priced at Β£9.99. We were very kindly gifted a copy in exchange for this post.

My middle child wrote and drew a similar picture book for his younger sister about a decade ago. I should have got it published! Ha! #MischiefandMemories

Oh that sounds like such a fun book and I can imagine Sophie and Thomas would both enjoy this book too. The illustration of the bare foot stepping in poo made me giggle. #MischiefandMemories
