Yes you DID read that correctly: a coverless duvet – such a thing does indeed exist!
‘The duvet that really makes the bed’ is the strapline behind The Fine Bedding Co’s Night Owl coverless duvet, and we were very kindly gifted one to see what all the fuss is about.
If you haven’t come across The Fine Bedding Co. before they’re a 4th generation family business specialising in ethically sourced premium down feather and innovative fibre filled bedding. Among their hero products is their Night Owl washable coverless duvet (from Β£30), which fits in the washing machine and dries in just 90 minutes.
The Fine Bedding Co. Night Owl coverless duvet review
If you’re a regular follower of the blog you’ll know we’re a family of six with four kids and they’ve all slept with us at various stages in their lives. We’ve co-slept with Violet since she was born in April 2020, and most nights at least one of the others make their way into our bed – which makes for a very busy bed!
The Night Owl duvet comes with 4.5 tog and 10.5 tog options, so you can choose the thickness to suit you and your family best – in our case that’s a summer duvet all year round because otherwise it just gets too hot!
With five beds to strip and change anything that helps make the job easier gets the thumbs up from me. The coverless design of the Night Owl duvet means you can pop it straight in the wash and there’s no need to grapple with a separate duvet cover, which is a game changer in a bigger family like ours.
One of my bugbears when it comes to bedding is when the duvet cover separates from the duvet inside thanks to the kids climbing all over it. If I had Β£1 for every time I have to realign our bedding and match it up again I’d be very rich indeed and to say it drives me potty is an understatement. But that’s not an issue with the Night Owl.
Our verdict
I was surprised how lightweight the Night Owl duvet is and with a price tag of Β£60 for a king size one I think it’s great value too. I love the fact it doesn’t crease, unlike a traditional duvet cover, which means less ironing – hurrah!
The fact it dries in 90 minutes is also a bonus when you’ve got your own little night owls, because it means any spills or leaks can be dealt with quickly and easily and the duvet is dry and clean again in time for the next bedtime.
There’s also another member of our family who’s rather pleased with it – and even better his hair doesn’t stick to it as it would with a traditional duvet cover!
We were gifted a Night Owl duvet and two pillowcases in exchange for this post. As always all opinions are my own and based on our own honest experience.
This sounds amazing! I hate changing duvet covers and one of my kids wriggles so much in his sleep that the duvet always ends up in a ball at the bottom of the duvet cover! Definitely going to check these out #fortheloveofblog
When I first read the title the thought of a coverless duvet filled me with dread lol but it actually sounds really good. The fact that the whole thing is washable and doesn’t need ironing sounds like an actual dream!

That looks really smart too! #FortheloveofBlog
I love the sound of this. As someone who does laps of the bed in their sleep, I’m forever getting the duvet cover in a knot! I’m going to take a look. #forhteloveofblog
These look fantastic I will be looking into these for the girls in our new home fab review Natalie #fortheloveofblog
Ooo this sounds ideal for my eldest. He is so wiggly in his sleep that he is constantly wiggling his duvet out of his cover. This would be the perfect solution! #fortheloveofblog
I haven’t heard of a coverless duvet before. But I love that you can pop it straight in the wash and save yourself plenty of time – we all need that in our lives! #fortheloveofblog
I was sold at dries at 90 minutes! It sounds really fantastic all round! #ForTheLoveofBlog x
