Jeans. They’re something most of us have in our wardrobe, yet finding the perfect fitting pair can be easier said than done.
If there’s one thing a pair of jeans needs to do it’s fit perfectly. Not too long, not too short, not too tight, not too loose and definitely not with any annoying seam twists when you’ve got them on.
As a teenager jeans shopping is something I’d dread. With short legs and a long upper body, the high street ones never seemed to fit properly or suit my body shape, and I’d go home empty-handed and brimming with hot tears of frustration.
Fast forward to four times mum me, and while jeans shopping is no longer the unhappy experience it once was, it can still be a tricky business.

The trend for high-waisted jeans is a no-no for me thanks to my four times mum tum, and I still struggle with the leg-to-upper body ratio (I’m 5’ 6” which is considered tall, yet when it comes to trousers owing to my leg length I’m classed as short).
I’ve been known to buy two pairs of exactly the same pair of jeans when I find ones I like because that way they’ll last longer, and M&S is my go-to shop because I know they’ll have something to fit me and I won’t have to suffer the indignity of hopping around on one foot in a changing room trying to get them on.
So, when Lands’ End got in touch and offered to gift me a pair of their jeans to review I was intrigued. I’ve never shopped with them; it’s never occurred to me they might have jeans I like; and could it be there’s another brand out there for me after all, with the added bonus of being delivered straight to my door?
Finding the perfect fitting jeans with Lands’ End
First of all, let’s address the elephant in the room: Lands’ End is for people of a ‘certain’ age, like my parents’ generation, right? I vividly recall the Lands’ End catalogue dropping on the mat and my mum buying things from it when I was a teenager, so I kind of assumed the brand had aged with her – sorry mum!
Wrong! It turns out Lands’ End isn’t just for people of my mum’s generation at all – it’s for mamas like me (42) too. There’s all sorts from women’s and men’s clothes to kids’ garb as well – it just hadn’t occurred to me to shop there before.
All their jeans are grouped into categories so you can shop your preferred style, and I chose a pair of Beech Blue Mid Rise 360 Stretch Slim Jeans (RRP £85 – £95). They come in three different leg lengths – 34, 32 and 30 (yay!) – and even better, at the time of writing (October 2022) there’s a 40% off discount code which can be automatically applied to your basket.
Getting the perfect fit
When shopping with a new brand for the first time it can be hard to know what size is right for you. I am either a size 10 or a size 12 depending on the shop and I’m pretty sure I’d be a size 11 if such a category existed!
Lands’ End has a handy tool in which it estimates your recommended size based on clothes you’ve already got in you wardrobe from other brands. After answering a series of questions their tool suggested size 10 would be a true fit, and it turns out it was absolutely spot on.
Happy post
The jeans arrived boxed and wrapped in tissue paper, which is always a good sign.
I can’t bear it when clothes arrive crumpled at the bottom of a plastic post bag with absolutely no thought into presentation at all!
My verdict
Designed to sit just below the natural waistline (so forgiving on a mum tum!) the jeans boast 360 degree denim, which is designed to stretch four ways so it flexes in every way you move to give an all-round stretch. Which is exactly what I need running around after four little people all day!
The pre-hemmed choice of lengths means the jeans are right for my short legs without being too long. It’s also unusual for me to find a pair that don’t need to be taken up. Overall I’m really pleased with them because they do actually move with me (no annoying seam twists!) and I can dress them up or down depending on the occasion.
If you’re on the hunt for a new pair of jeans I don’t think you’ll be disappointed – in fact, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Do you struggle when it comes to shopping for jeans? I’d love to hear about your experience!
I was gifted the Lands’ End jeans featured in this post. As always, all opinions are my own and based on my own honest experience.
