I can hardly believe I’m writing this but I am: our lockdown baby is one!
What a bittersweet year it’s been what with giving birth in the middle of a global pandemic, maternity leave hijacked by lockdown and homeschooling to name just a few of the horrors.
If you’d told me a year ago what Violet’s first year would have in store for all of us I simply wouldn’t have believed it – back then the concept of lockdown alone sounded like a plot for a film!
Yet here we are 12 months later still living under the shadow of Covid, and as lockdown restrictions start to ease and Violet turns one at last it feels like there’s light at the end of the tunnel. So, to mark her first birthday this week I thought it would be fun to share 10 wishes for my lockdown baby on her first birthday.
10 wishes for my lockdown baby on her first birthday
1. Family
I hope you can finally meet all the members of our family before the year is out. When you were born we joked you’d be walking before you could, but the joke is well and truly on us because at this rate you probably will be!
2. Mummy & baby groups
I hope we can go to a mummy and baby group before your second birthday. One without masks and social distancing where you can play and climb all over babies of your own age.
3. Face masks
I hope you continue to laugh and giggle every time I put a mask on. Masks are all you’ve ever known and I’m so happy you see them as a playful joke instead of something to be scared of.
4. Homeschooling
I hope I never ever ever have to homeschool you in the way I had to homeschool your brother and sister. It nearly broke us and I’m so glad you were too little to remember!
5. Being normal
I hope we can do normal things like go swimming soon. Both as a family with your brother and sisters and just us at a baby swimming class.
6. Rainbows
I hope you don’t come to hate rainbows. They’ve been a symbol of hope during the pandemic and have been everywhere you look since you were born – whether you like it or not!
7. Your name
I hope you don’t mind that we decided to call you Violet Hope in a nod to the unprecedented time at which you entered the world. Although it technically is a corona related name, I hope you’ll agree it’s a positive one.
8. Born in lockdown
I hope being born in lockdown doesn’t affect your social development in the way some of the headlines suggest it will. With a bit of luck having three older siblings will make up for missing out on meeting other babies your own age.
9. Coffee shops
I hope we can meet other mums and babies in coffee shops soon. We’ve got a years’ worth of tea and cakes to catch up on (although I’ll give banana bread a miss – we’ve had quite enough of that!)
10. The future
I hope you never know what it’s like to live with a global pandemic. With a bit of luck all this will be over soon and you won’t remember a thing!
Did you welcome a new baby during lockdown or know someone who has? I’d love to hear about your experience!
How! How is your little girl one already!Time does fly when you’re in lockdown. Happy birthday Violet.
It really is strange when you think that all little one’s have ever known is people with masks. x
I know – time literally flies doesn’t it!
Awww this is lovely and happy birthday to Violet X #mischiefandmemories
Thank you so much!
Happy Birthday Violet
Have fun catching up on many visits at playgroups and meeting up with friends eating all that cake xx #MischiefAndMemories

Happy Birthday Violet Hope! Wow, I can’t believe that she’s 1 already. Hasn’t time flown by. Fingers crossed for a sunnier Summer – with much more freedom and hopefully lots of new buddies for Violet to play with. Thank you for joining us for #mischiefandmemories xx
Yes we’re so looking forward to the summer, I just wish the weather would warm up a bit!
Happy birthday Violet! I hope things can be a bit more normal for you soon and you can catch up on some of the things that have been restricted this year. I have a great niece born last year that I haven’t met yet π Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories
It’s such a shame isn’t it – I hope you get to meet your niece soon x
Bringing up a newborn amidst Covid, restrictions and lockdown must’ve been so strange. And difficult. Hope things get back to normal as soon as possible and she can experience those baby/ toddler groups, meet all her family and do everything else that was restricted.

It was really strange compared to maternity leave with my other three, but we survived – just!
Happy 1st birthday Violet! Such a beautiful name. I love this list. I hope she gets to meet the family soon. #fortheloveofblog
Thank you! I have a Bluebell, a Marigold and now a Violet…
Happy birthday Violet! What a crazy first year for your entire family – hopefully it is onwards and upwards from here x #fortheloveofblog
Yes! Onwards & upwards is a good way of looking at it!
Awww … such a lovely post. Happy birthday beautiful! And amen to the homeschooling being done with! It nearly broke me too! #fortheloveofblog
If I ever have to homeschool again it will be too soon…
Happy Birthday!!!! My niece was 6 months old before I got to meet her, it’s crazy. Fingers crossed you’ll get to see everyone soon. #fortheloveofblog
So pleased you finally got to meet your niece – what a year it’s been…
Seeing pictures of Violet has always made me smile this past year. She is so cute. I cannot even begin to imagine how hard it’s been for you to juggle everything. I know Violet won’t remember, but you certainly won’t forget her first year! #fortheloveofblog
She kept us all smiling throughout lockdown too and really has been a ray of light!
I hope she had an amazing day! Looks like many of these wishes will be coming true very soon and the second birthday will be even more memorable.
#fortheloveofblog
Fingers crossed! With a bit of luck everything will be back to ‘normal’ by her second birthday…
Popping back again, but this time with #fortheloveofblog. That last photo of Violet is stunning. Even though she’s too little to know, I’m sure she’ll treasure her name and that little nod to rainbows and hope.
I really hope she doesn’t end up hating us for the nod to Covid!
I have really felt for new mums and babies in the past year. There must be so many feeling isolated from friends and family. I hope Violet enjoys meeting all these new friendly faces over the coming months #fortheloveofblog
Thank you! It’s been quite overwhelming for her as lockdown restrictions ease & we can go out again – it must be so strange for her!
