Did you know that a shampoo bar can last up to three times longer than a bottle of liquid shampoo?
And that because shampoo bars contain little or no water, you’re left with only active ingredients?

As we enter 2023, many of us are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental and health implications of the products we buy.

That said, a lot of us use a wide range of soaps and other products with no idea of what’s actually in those products!
If you’re reading this because you’re considering making the switch from liquid shampoo to a healthier alternative, this collaborative post reveals four great reasons.
4 reasons to ditch liquid shampoo
1. Environmental impact
One of the most significant reasons why you should ditch liquid shampoo is the environmental impact. Liquid shampoo is packaged in plastic bottles, which aren’t biodegradable, and take hundreds of years to break down into microplastics. This means that every time you use a bottle of shampoo, you are contributing to the growing problem of plastic pollution. The shampoo itself is also often made using environmentally toxic chemicals.

In contrast, shampoo bars are generally packaged in biodegradable or recyclable materials, making them a much more sustainable option. They’re also generally longer lasting than liquid shampoo, meaning you don’t have to buy as much in any given amount of time.
2. Hair health
Shampoo soap bars are made with natural ingredients, which are much less harsh on the hair and scalp than many of the chemicals found in liquid shampoos. Rather than stripping the hair of its oils, they’re formulated using natural oils and butters, that provide moisture and nourishment to the hair, leaving it feeling soft and healthy for longer.

Many liquid shampoos contain harsh chemicals, such as sulfates, which can strip the hair of its natural oils and leave it feeling dry and damaged. This can lead to a dry, itchy scalp and hair that’s more prone to damage.
3. Convenience
Unlike liquid shampoo, shampoo bars are incredibly convenient to use. They’re fun and easy to lather, and can be used directly on the hair, in some cases even eliminating the need for a separate conditioner. They’re also easy to travel and fly with, as they don’t have to be stored in a plastic bottle.

In addition, they’re also multi-purpose. They can be used as a body wash, a shaving soap, and even (if you’re in a tricky situation) as a laundry detergent to wash your clothes.
4. Shampoo bars are cost-effective
Finally, even though they’re healthier and better all around, shampoo bars are still more cost-effective than liquid shampoos. They last longer than liquid shampoos, meaning you don’t have to buy as many items in any given time frame. In addition to that, they’re also generally cheaper than liquid shampoos, making them an ideal option for people on a budget – which is most of us at the moment.

Switching to shampoo bars can be a great way to reduce your environmental impact, improve the health of your hair, and save money. With the natural ingredients they are made of, they’re also gentler on the hair and scalp, and multi-purpose. If you are looking for a more sustainable and natural option for your hair care routine, it’s definitely worth considering switching to a shampoo bar. If you don’t like it, you can always switch back!

I recently tried to switch from my beloved curly hair liquid shampoo and tried a bar instead. My hair turned into a frizzy bomb sticking out like I’d had an electric shock. I was so disappointed. Do you know of any good shampoo bars in the UK for curly hair?
